Common questions

Can we start with SKD and move to local PCBA later?

Yes, and that is the normal path. Starting at L1 lets you launch while the factory builds competence. Moving to L3 later is a planned transition with its own qualification steps, not a restart.

Which parts should be localized first?

Usually enclosure, harness, cable and packaging. They carry logistics cost and weight, they are easier to qualify than metering or protection electronics, and getting them wrong has visible rather than latent consequences.

Does localization affect certification?

It can. Changing a part that sits in the safety or EMC path may require assessment or retesting depending on the scheme and the part. This is a review at the start of every stage, not an afterthought.

Do we need our own engineering team?

For L1 and L2, no. From L3 you need at least a production engineer and a quality owner. For L5 you need a team that can own the product.
