Home Charger for MG ZS EV
The ZS EV is heading into run-out as MG transitions to the S5 EV, but tens of thousands of them are on Indian roads with years of life left. If you own one, or found a run-out deal, the charging picture is stable and well understood.

The 9-hour question
Nine hours is the longest AC charge time of any mainstream EV in India, purely because a healthy 50.3 kWh pack is being fed through 7.4 kW. You cannot shorten it with a bigger wallbox; the car's onboard charger is the limit. What you can do is stop thinking in full charges. Most ZS EV owners use 15 to 20 kWh a day, which is 2.5 hours of charging. Plug in nightly and the battery lives between 40% and 80%, which the battery also prefers.
The full 9 hours only appears after a road trip, and even then an 11 pm to 8 am window covers it.
Which charger
Own garage or dedicated slot: PowerPod Lite 7.4kW at ₹45,000. Matches the car's rate, IP65 housing for open-air parking, built-in resettable RCD so a nuisance trip at 2 am fixes itself instead of leaving you flat in the morning.
Society parking: PowerPod Go 7.4kW at ₹58,000, for RFID access and per-user billing that gets RWA approval.
Bought a run-out car? Confirm with the dealer whether the historical bundle (7.4 kW wallbox plus portable cable) still applies to stock units. If the wallbox is missing from the deal, negotiate, then price the Lite against whatever MG quotes.
The right PowerPod for the MG ZS EV.
PowerPod Lite 7.4 kW
Matches the ZS EV's full 7.4 kW rate. IP65 and built-in RCD for open-air installs.
PowerPod Go 7.4 kW
RFID access and per-user billing that gets society approval.
What it costs to run
At ₹7 per unit, a full charge costs about ₹350 and covers 350+ real km. Just about a rupee per km, versus roughly ₹7 per km for an equivalent petrol SUV. Over 15,000 km a year the fuel saving alone is near ₹90,000.
Installation notes
7.4 kW is a 32A single-phase draw. Older homes with 3 or 4 kW sanctioned loads will need an enhancement to charge at full rate alongside normal household use; your DISCOM processes this on application. In apartments, put the charger on your own meter where the layout allows. It keeps the society out of your electricity bill entirely.
MG ZS EV charging questions.
Will spares and support continue after the ZS EV is discontinued?+
MG has an installed base too large to abandon, and the charging hardware side is standard Type 2 AC regardless. Any OCPP charger sold today will serve this car for its whole life.
Can I use the ZS EV wallbox for my next EV?+
If it is a standard Type 2 unit, yes. That logic runs both ways: a PowerPod bought for the ZS EV serves whatever replaces it.
Is 9 hours too slow to live with?+
In practice, no. Daily top-ups take 2 to 3 hours. Full charges are rare events.
