EV Charger Manufacturers in India: How to Evaluate One
We are not going to rank manufacturers, because RIOD is one of them and any ranking we published would be worthless to you. What follows is the method we would use if we were buying, which you can apply to us as readily as to anyone else.
What it does instead is set out the questions that reveal a supplier's design ownership, testing capability and after-sales support, so you can apply them yourself, to us included.

The last question is the most revealing. Suppliers who have thought about continuity answer it directly. Suppliers who have not tend to treat the question as hostile.
Distinguish the manufacturer types
The Indian market contains full-stack designers who build their own hardware and firmware, assemblers of imported or licensed designs, importers rebadging finished units, and system integrators who buy hardware and sell a service. All four are legitimate businesses and all four are described as manufacturers.
Which one you are buying from determines who can help you in eighteen months, so it is worth establishing early and directly.
Check certificates against the quote
A certificate applies to a specific configuration at a specific revision. Verify it covers the unit being quoted, including its critical components and firmware version, rather than a related variant. This is a routine check and it is routinely skipped.
Ask for a portability demonstration
Ask any manufacturer to connect a unit to a backend that is not theirs and start a session in front of you. It is a short test and it establishes more about openness than any specification claim.

What to ask a manufacturer that is hard to fake
Comparing manufacturers on specification sheets rewards whoever writes the best specification sheet. These questions are harder to answer without having done the work.
- What is your field failure rate and how do you define it? Ours is about 0.5 percent, roughly one unit in two hundred, counting unit failures rather than support calls.
- Is every unit functionally tested, or a sample? We test every unit, which is why we build our own end-of-line jigs including a charger simulator so the charging sequence is exercised without a vehicle.
- Which platforms has your OCPP been tested against, at which release, and what was found?
- How does a fleet change management platform without a site visit?
- Have you transferred a design to another company's factory? We have, to a customer in Europe who now builds our platform in their own market.
A manufacturer who has done these things can answer immediately. One who has not will answer with a certificate.
