This works backwards from most charging calculators. Rather than asking you to assume a utilisation and returning a payback figure, it asks for your costs and margin and returns the utilisation the site has to reach.
That is the more useful direction, because you can judge whether a location plausibly delivers a given utilisation. You cannot judge whether a payback figure built on someone else's assumption is realistic.

This is a break-even calculation, not a financial model. It ignores ramp, so it assumes the site reaches steady utilisation immediately, which overstates early performance. It also ignores equipment refresh, financing cost and tax.

How to read the result
- Look at hours per bay per day rather than the percentage. It is easier to judge against what you know about the location.
- If the answer is under an hour a day, the site is probably viable. If it needs most of the day, it probably is not.
- Ramp is not included. A site does not reach steady utilisation on day one, so early cash flow will be worse than this suggests.
- If a demand-based tariff component applies, put it in fixed annual cost. On low-utilisation sites it frequently dominates.
- Run it again with a lower margin and a higher fixed cost to see how much room the case actually has.
