The question to ask about any dual-gun unit is whether both connectors deliver full rate at the same time, or whether they share one power stage between them.
Both designs exist and both are legitimate, but they behave completely differently on a busy site, and the specification sheet does not always make it obvious which one you are buying.

Shared power or independent
In a shared design, one power stage serves two connectors. One vehicle gets the full rate; two vehicles divide it. In an independent design, each connector has its own capability and both can charge at full rate simultaneously, which requires proportionally more supply.
Shared designs are not inferior. On a supply-constrained site, dividing capacity between two bays is exactly the behaviour you want, and it is what load management does anyway. The problem is only when buyers expect independent behaviour and receive shared.
What a dual-gun unit actually saves
- One mounting point, one foundation or wall fixing rather than two
- One supply cable run rather than two
- One set of civil works, which is frequently the largest saving
- One unit to commission, connect and manage
- Less physical footprint in constrained parking
On sites where trenching dominates the budget, serving two bays from one point can be materially cheaper than two separate installations.
What it costs you
Coupling. A fault that takes the unit out of service takes both bays with it, where two separate units would have lost one. On a two-bay site that is the whole installation, and it is worth weighing against the civil saving.
Cable reach also constrains bay layout, since both connectors must reach their vehicles from a single position.
Questions to ask a supplier
- Do both connectors deliver full rate simultaneously, or is power shared?
- If shared, how is it allocated when a second vehicle connects mid-session?
- Is each connector separately metered, and separately billable?
- Does a fault on one connector disable the other?
- What is the cable length, and does it reach both bays as laid out?
The metering question matters commercially. Two bays sharing one meter cannot be billed to two drivers accurately.

Independent power, metering and authentication per connector is the distinction that matters. A dual unit that shares one supply path between two connectors halves the rate when both are in use and cannot bill them apart. These do neither.
