Engineering Back-End for EV Charging Consultancies

Consultancies are usually strong on the questions clients ask first and thin on the ones that arrive during commissioning, which are about firmware, protocol and why two compliant systems will not talk.

Building that depth for a handful of projects a year rarely pays. Holding it behind you does, provided the boundary is explicit enough that you are comfortable putting us in front of a client's problem.

01

Where we are usually needed

  • Writing charger specifications that can actually be evaluated.
  • Protocol and platform questions during design or bid evaluation.
  • Load management strategy where supply constrains the bay count.
  • Commissioning problems where hardware, firmware and platform disagree.
  • Questions the project team cannot answer with authority.
02

The boundary

We do not approach your client, quote them directly, or brand the deliverable unless you ask. Consultancies are rightly cautious about introducing a supplier with its own commercial interest into a relationship they own, and that caution is reasonable.

03

The conflict, stated

RIOD sells chargers. If we advise on a specification we could later bid into, that is a conflict your client is entitled to know about. Our position is that we advise and stand out of supply, or supply and do not advise, on any given project.

04

Two shapes

On call, where you bring questions as they arise. Or embedded, where we are named in the delivery team for a project whose charging scope justifies it. Most firms start with the first.

05

What we can put behind your recommendation

A consultant's recommendation is only as strong as what stands behind it when the client asks a hard question. These are the things we can answer directly rather than referring on.

  • A measured field failure rate: about 0.5 percent, roughly one unit in two hundred, counting unit failures rather than support calls
  • Certification to IEC 61851, with all protection functions inside the unit
  • Scheduling that can hold site load out of an evening peak, which is often the alternative to a supply upgrade
  • Local operation with no internet, which is what makes basement parking viable
  • A completed technology transfer to a customer who now builds our platform in their own market

Because the hardware, firmware and platform are one team here, technical questions come back quickly rather than being routed across three suppliers. Consultants tell us that is the part that matters to them.

Frequently asked questions

Will you contact our client?

No, unless you ask us to. That boundary is explicit from the start.

Can the deliverable carry our branding?

Yes. Output is white label unless you decide otherwise.

What if you could bid on the project?

Then we advise and stand out of supply, or supply and do not advise. Not both on the same project.

What is out of scope?

Site, civil and distribution design remain yours. We cover the charger, its firmware, protocol behaviour and platform integration.
