EV Charger Contract Manufacturing

We manufacture EV chargers, and we manufacture them for other companies who want their own product built without owning a factory. That covers the whole path: moulding, component procurement, assembly, programming, functional testing and OCPP testing, with production status visible throughout.

Two situations bring companies here. You have a design and need it built. Or you want a charger of your own and need it designed and built. We do both, and the second is the more common.

Incoming package review

Before anything is quoted, the design package is assessed for completeness.

  • Bill of materials with manufacturer part numbers, not distributor codes
  • Approved vendor list, including which alternates are valid
  • Schematics and layout at a defined revision
  • Mechanical drawings with tolerances that can actually be held
  • Firmware build and programming method
  • Test specification with limits, or an acknowledgement that none exists
  • Certification status and the technical file

The item most often missing is the test specification. A design that has never been characterised has no defensible pass and fail limits, which means the line cannot tell a good unit from a marginal one.

What we do with the gaps

Gaps are reported before quoting, with an estimate of what closing each one costs. You can close them yourself, have us close them as engineering work, or accept the risk explicitly. What does not happen is proceeding as though the package were complete.

Production engineering

Turning a design into a manufacturable process: process flow, work instructions, station definition, fixture requirements, and design for manufacture feedback where the design makes production unnecessarily difficult.

Design for manufacture feedback is offered, not imposed. It is your design. But a fastener an operator cannot reach with a calibrated driver will cost you yield every shift.

Test systems

Where a test specification exists, we build to it. Where one does not, developing it is scoped as engineering work, because shipping units against undefined limits is not something we will do quietly.

Quality and traceability

Incoming inspection, in-process control, end-of-line test and unit level traceability linking each product to its component lots, process records, test results and firmware version. Non-conformance handling and corrective action follow the same discipline as our own products.

Where responsibility sits

The simple allocation is that assembly defects sit with us and design limitations sit with you. Real failures are frequently neither. Tolerance interaction, an approved substitution behaving differently in circuit, ambiguous documentation and manufacturing induced stress on a marginal design all produce failures that a blame allocation cannot resolve.

For that reason the agreement should define a joint failure analysis process: who holds the failed units, what evidence is captured before disassembly, and who arbitrates when the analysis is inconclusive. That is more useful than a boundary clause.

The point of a manufacturing partner is that one organisation carries the whole sequence rather than coordinating five.

    Enclosure tooling and the mechanical parts, so the product looks like yours rather than like a rebadged standard box.

    Electronics and mechanical sourcing, with the vendor relationships and the alternates behind them.

    Assembly

    Built on a line set up for charger production rather than adapted from something else.

    Programming and provisioning

    As an automated production step with a jig, not an engineer with a cable.

    Functional testing

    Every unit exercised, including the charging sequence, using a charger simulator so behaviour is verified without a vehicle.

    OCPP testing

    Protocol behaviour verified on the line, so a unit does not reach a customer and fail its first backend connection.

You can see the production status

Manufacturing somewhere else usually means waiting for an email about where your order is.

Production runs through our PLM system, so the status of your build is visible: what has been produced, what has been tested, and what each unit's results were. When a unit comes back from the field two years later, its production record is retrievable rather than reconstructed.

Warranty and how the design origin changes it

Where the product was designed by us, it carries a one year warranty from manufacture. We designed it, so we can stand behind how it behaves.

Where you bring your own design, we build to it. That is build to print and we take that work, with testing and production records the same as anything else. The warranty position differs because the design decisions are not ours, and it is agreed at the start rather than discovered at the point of a claim.

For international customers the product is manufactured here and exported to you.

What do you need from us to quote?

Yes. Design for manufacture feedback is offered rather than imposed, since it remains your design, but a difficult assembly costs yield every shift.
